Industrial grit - the finale

What should I post next? These industrial photographs were all taken with in one hour. To get five good photographs in one hour and create a series isn’t easy. Especially, if they are all in the same room. These photographs were an exception, but it’s a good format for finding new things to shoot and creating some mini series’. Anyone have any ideas?

Industrial grit - day four

Old signs are great subjects. Just make sure you get the permission from your electrician.

Industrial grit - hump day for this series

Symmetry is another element of composition which I love. I’d also add that I’m just a huge fan of great composition.  This one isn’t perfectly symmetric but really what is?

Industrial grit - day two

Did I also mention I really like making photographs that are hard to tell what the subject is? I think they’re my favorite way to shoot artistic photographs. Edward Weston is really well known for his photographs of vegetables, or most notably his pepper photograph which looks nothing like a pepper.

Industrial grit

For the next five days there will be one industrial black and white photograph each day. I’m a big fan of geometric elements, as well as a big fan of old run down industrial looking things. Starting today off with this one. all were shot in one room with in one hour. The following five days are the five best.

Photo of the day 1/5/2009 - When you’re a kid, anything goes

As a kid, riding your bike is something you can do for hours. You can do it with your friends or by yourself. You can ride in circles or in a straight line forever, and it never seems to get boring. As a kid, your imagination will create some sort of imaginary game, event, or person to do it with when nothing or no one else is around. Here at New Hope, the kids got tired of one of the bikes sitting around with two flat tires. So, as boys do, they got their hands dirty and used their imagination to remove the flat tires and decided to ride the bike without them! Genius! They took turns riding the tireless bike for hours in circles, riding it around the futbol court. When it was someone else’s turn, the others would sit on the sidelines and count the bike rider’s laps around the court until it was their turn again. In this photo, it was Freddy’s turn.

My love of dogs, and photography

Since I was about 11, I’ve had a black dog. First it was the one of two family dogs named Sam, a black lab. Then it was my own dog, Murphy, a black lab mix who I picked up at the SPCA. Murphy, is currently living with a great family with the last name Murphy of all things. It was hard to leave Murphy behind for six months, but he is in loving hands, and I know that I’ll return to see him again. However, when I heard there was another black dog named Davy, a Black Lab/Great Dane mix, here at the home, I got really excited.

You see, I love dogs, and I love photography. A few years ago, I noticed how Murphy’s black coat just shines when the light hits it. Since then, I’ve wanted to produce a series of abstract black and white photographs of a dog’s shiny black coat. Since Davy is here, I figured I’d shoot some photos of her sleeping in a dark leather chair. So, here are four photographs I shot the other night.
